Juicing Foundations
JUICING FOUNDATIONS!!
Why is it necessary to juice? What is the importance of juicing if you are eating good amounts of fresh veggies every day? These are good questions we are often asked and I hope to be able to answer below.
Our bodies are living organisms made of living cells. These cells require living food (raw) to function properly. Cooked food is dead food and has very little nutritional value. Cooking destroys all enzymes, about 83% of vitamin content, changes the molecular structure of the protein and turns organic minerals into an inorganic form that is not usable by our bodies.
Raw vegetables are a fantastic source of nutrition, but let’s compare the benefits of eating raw vegetables to juicing raw vegetables. When you eat a raw carrot, you must chew it first and then digest it. Even if it is very well chewed, the digestion process still takes time. Digestion takes energy, which means part of the energy you are getting from the carrot must be used up just to get it into your system. And digestion takes time, and during this time a deterioration of nutrients takes place.
With the pulp or fiber removed by juicing, the nutrients do not have to go through the long and energy-consuming process of digestion. This allows the nutrients to pass directly into the bloodstream. Within minutes these nutrients are feeding the cells and restoring the immune system. It takes approximately one pound of carrots to make an eight-ounce glass of carrot juice. There is no way a person could eat a whole pound of carrots at one time, and even if they could they would lose over 65% of the nutrients in the digestive process. By drinking the carrot juice, you are putting into your body the nutrients of a whole pound of carrots and over 90% of those nutrients are reaching cellular level.
Vegetable juices are the regenerators and builders of the body. A person trying to heal or prevent disease needs to offer his or her body’s cells as much high-quality, usable nutrition as possible so those cells can revitalize weakened organs by creating new cells that are healthier than the
ones being replaced. The best way of doing this is with the consumption of fresh vegetable juice. As mentioned, drinking fresh vegetable juice as well as eating whole vegetables will get more nutrition to the cellular level of our bodies quicker. It is a well known fact that all foods must become liquid before they can be assimilated.
Juicing enables the body to flush toxins that have been stored in cells and vital organs, giving you energy and leaving you feeling refreshed and alive. Live goods make your hair shine, your skin become softer with a lovely glow, your breath becomes fresh and your whole being has more vitality. All of the body systems start to function better as they receive the live, fresh nutrients — vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes — they so desperately need.
The beta-carotene found in live plants is a known antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals before they can damage the “genetic blueprint” within each cell. Beta-carotene is found in carrots, cabbage, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, rutabagas, watercress and many greens. Chlorophyll is another component the human body desperately needs. Man cannot make chlorophyll — it can only be found in plants. Current research indicates that chlorophyll appears to fight tumor growth, especially in the lungs. The chlorophyll works on the adrenal glands and cleans the lymph nodes, which improves the blood and removed debris that clog the arteries. Chlorophyll is also a deodorizer. Dark leaf3r greens are extremely high in nutrients, and taste great when juiced with carrots. BarleyMax is also a dark, leafy green food, and since the barley has had the fiber removed, it is in the same category as vegetable juice.
Vegetables contain the building blocks that develop powerful, healthy muscles, tissues, glands and organs. While all fruits and vegetables are important to maintain good health, some are exceptionally beneficial; carrot juice is the vital key and should be the base of all vegetable juices. Fruit juices are very high in natural sugar. However, raw fruit, when thoroughly chewed, digests very rapidly and provides the body with fiber. Fruits that contain pectin, such as apples and pears, contain a digestive aid that helps to regulate the body. Pectin is more easily obtained when the fruit is eaten rather than juiced.
Unlike drugs, which are foreign to the body, nutrients work with the body to invigorate its own healing capabilities. All healing must come from within the body as we give it the proper building materials with which to heal itself Juices themselves do not heal! But they do provide the body with concentrated building materials so that the body can heal itself. Juices themselves do not heal, but they do provide the body with concentrated building materials so that the body can heal itself. Then the first part of the body that will restore itself when given proper nutrients is the immune system. As the immune system restores, it starts expelling poisons within the body and seeking out the trouble spots to heal them.
WHAT IF MY SKIN TURNS ORANGE???
Intestinal and liver diseases are sometimes due to a lack of certain elements found in raw carrot juice properly prepared. When this is the case, a noticeable cleaning up of the liver can take place and the material which was clogging the liver may be able to dissolve. Frequently this is released so abundantly that the intestinal and urinary channels are inadequate to care for this overflow, and in a perfectly natural manner it is passed into the lymph for elimination from the body by means of the pores of the skin.
This material has a distinctly orange or yellow pigment and while it is being eliminated from the body it can discolor the skin. Whenever such a discoloration takes place after drinking carrot juice and other juices, it is an indication the liver is getting a well-needed cleansing. It is NOT the carrot juice itself nor the carotene that comes though the skin, as this discoloration will take place even if the juice is filtered to the point of clearing it of all color pigment. It is just as practical an impossibility for the carrot pigment itself to come through the skin as it would be for the red pigment of the beet to turn the skin red, or green veggies paint the skin green.
Regardless, it is better to have healthy soft skin, even if a bit of “carrot” shade, than a pasty white unhealthy skin. Remember, if the discoloration does appear, it will disappear, and be grateful that the disintegration of the liver has been stopped or prevented by the use of these juices. It is simply a manifestation of the toxins that the liver is excreting as an overall tonic and rejuvenator, carrot juice cannot be topped!
I’VE HEARD CARROT JUICE IS TOO
HIGH IN SUGAR???
This is a very interesting question and often asked. It is important to understand that there is a huge difference between the sugar found in raw foods and the sugar found in cooked and processed foods. An example, according to the glycemic index, a cooked carrot has a glycemic index of 127, and raw carrot juice has an index of 85. The glycemic index entry indicates the rate at which glucose is absorbed into the blood; the higher the number, the greater of influx of glucose into the blood. But as Dr. Joel Robbins points out, natural sugar in raw foods is received by the body in a totally different manner than is the sugar found in cooked or refined foods. There are opinions on both sides of the issue, but we have thousands of people the world over that have had miracles in their health and it started with incorporating carrot juice into their daily routine. There is nothing in the medical doctors’ medicine chest or the nutritionists’ food group triangle that give such profound results.
WHAT ABOUT JUICERS????
A juicer is designed to extract the juice from the fibers of the plant, separating the pulp from the juice. It is important to keep in mind that the fiber needed for good health is received by eating fresh fruit and vegetables; however, you do not want fiber in the juice that you drink. The pulp lefi behind has little nutritional value, is harder to digest and can contain toxins if it is chemically grown.
Centrifugal juicers have a spinning basket that rotates at a very high rate of speed (usually 2200-2400rpm) shredding the food and flinging the juice though the air causing oxidation to take place. This they should only be used it if is the only option available, and then a better juicer as soon as possible. Why? The shedding action is not efficient in breaking open the cells to extract the nutrients from the pulp, and the oxidation that takes place causes nutritional loss.
Masticating juicers operate at much slower speeds. They can also be used as grinders for nuts, and making frozen desserts as well. We have the best prices on the following juicers what we recommend:
1. The Champion. It has hundreds of little teeth that revolve at 1725 revolutions a minute. This juicer, after it has shredded the carrot, presses the pulp against a stainless steel screen, thus forcing out more nutrients. This juicer will yield about the same amount of juice as the centrifugal juicer, but lab test show that it will yield 3 to 4 times more nutrients than centrifugal juicers. This is a good low-end juicer that has served many people very well for years.
2. The Compact 10-In-One. It has a gentle low speed squeezing and crushing the juice so there is no heat created when making juice, therefore keeping enzymes alive! This will allow you to store the juice, if put in glass jars with NO air at the top, for up to 48 hours. It is versatile and can also be used as a mincer, food mill, and oil extractor.
3. The Twin Health. This machine is awesome. It is very slow, 70 rpm to preserve the maximum amount of nutrients and living cells. It is quiet, and easy to clean, but takes a bit longer to use. Because of this, the juice will last up to 72 hours if properly cared for.
We often have people feel that the cost of a juicer is just out of their range. But when you think of what you currently spend on doctor visits, non-prescription medications, and prescription meds, vitamins, etc. the cost of a juicer is easily taken care of in a few months. Sometimes a used one is available and all of these juicers have great warranties on them.
