Cause and Cure
ADDICT – “One who is addicted to a substance, activity, or habit….to cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on an addictive substance,…..to habituate or abandon (oneself) to something compulsively or obsessively.”
ADDICTION – “Dependence on or commitment to a habit, practice, or habit-forming substance to the extent that its cessation causes trauma.”
“You can get addicted to anything chemical-------
as long as it influences your body chemistry”!!!!
What a statement – just think about it. Have you ever heard of anyone getting addicted to carrot juice, broccoli, veggie soup to the point of sneaking around to satisfy the desire, robbing needed items to just get another fresh salad????
It would be great if when we took an addictive substance, we felt depressed and terrible and then when we stopped, we experienced happiness and felt fantastic!! Not a hard decision to make. BUT, addictive substances usually make us feel good when we use them, but when we stop we feel terrible and crash. This is especially true of caffeine and sugar.
Our bodies were designed to eat food void of chemicals and full of nutrition. Each day our body loses millions of cells and each day millions of cells are born. Depending on the fuel we give these cells as they are being created, they will develop stronger and healthier than the ones that just died or they will be weaker and sicker. As long as you are giving your body food with chemicals you will gradually become weaker and more susceptible to disease and illness.
Refined sugar is probably the most widely used addictive drug in the world today, yet this drug is found in almost EVERY manufactured food product and consumed by most people many times every day.
I did some research to find out the process used to get sugar from it’s raw natural state to that put on our tables. It is as follows:
“This kind of sugar is heated up in chalk-milk, so that calcium and protein are extracted. After this process it becomes alkaloid, destroying all vitamin content. In the second phase, the sugar is mixed with acid, chalk, carbonic gas, sulfur dioxide and finally with natrium bicarbonate. This mixture is cooked and cooled off several times and thereafter crystallized and centrifuged. This dead mass is then treated with strontium hydroxide. Subsequently it arrives at the refinery where it is passed over chalk, and carbon acid to clean it. Dark coloring is removed by adding sulfuric acid and then it is filtered with bone charcoal. Finally, it is colored with Indathren Blue or the highly toxic Ultramarine…..Gearson”
It is not just the sugar that is addictive, because almost every item found in the average persons diet, is also addictive such as meat, dairy, cheese, white flour, caffeine, salt, etc. However, it seems that sugar is the most addictive of these. People I talk with on a daily basis, even those on the Hallelujah Diet or trying to follow it closely, say that sugar is by far the most difficult to give up.
Most addictions have their beginning at the cellular level of the body. When the body’s cells are not being properly nourished there is a lack of satisfaction at cellular level. Because the cells are not being satisfied with good nutrition, the cells plead for nutritional satisfaction. Addictions begin when a person subconsciously attempts to satisfy the cells desire for good nutrition by the placing of a non-nutritional substance called a stimulant into their body. This stimulant tricks the body into believing cellular needs have been meet.
The problem now is that the person is addicted to that non-nutritional stimulant which is causing the body to believe it is being satisfied when that stimulant is placed into it. This begins a vicious cycle – the body craves the stimulant for satisfaction and is only satisfied when more of the stimulant is provided. Deny the body that stimulant and the body goes into withdrawal. These withdrawal symptoms will only go away when more of the stimulant is provided.
Gaining Victory Over Addictions
1. PRAY – ask God. Prayer helps, but prayer alone does not usually produce victory over an addiction. We all know that we reap what we sow and even though God desires for us to have healthy bodies, strong minds and strong wills to choose right, He will not make us. We are responsible for our own choices and desires.
2. TAKE CONTROL – A person desiring to break an addiction must understand that this is a physical body God has given them and although it was probably initially in ignorance they put addictive substances into their body, regardless, they are now addicted. If they want to stop the addiction, they must starve the body of this addictive substance and not allow the smallest amount to enter the body. This will cause the body to go into withdrawal as the body craves and demands the substances.
3. FIND SOMEONE TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT YOU. Find a friend that will understand what you are attempting to do and support you in the healing process of detoxification.

Symptoms of cleansing or detoxifying the body of addictive substances:
· Allergy symptoms
· Bowel gas
· Cramps
· Constipation
· Diarrhoea
· Dizziness
· Fatigue and weakness
· Gout attack
· Headaches
· Hunger
· Indigestion
· Rapid weight loss
· Frequent urination
Do not be alarmed by these symptoms. Be happy, your body is at
work ridding itself of these poisons that quite possibly would have resulted in serious physical problems in the future.
If a person will simultaneously, while stopping the intake of the addictive substance through will and mind power, prayer and determination; and start flooding the body with living nutrients found in the raw veggies, raw veggie juice and Barley Max this will help take the edge off part of the problem because now the cells are being satisfied nutritionally.
I would encourage you to have Barley Max 6-8 times a day when you start – even a small amount but keep the body saturated with all this good nutrition as it begins the healing process.
It is also very important that a person starts moving and this will cause the toxins to move out of the body. Vigorous exercise causes the body to take in copious amounts of oxygen, which also helps satisfy the cells, clear the mind and help empower the person.
Yes, you will crash – and it will not be fun or easy but the results will leave you feeling empowered, healthy and in control of yourself. If you want to achieve the ultimate health that God designed for you, you must stop the consumption of all toxic food and substances.
If you find that you are detoxing in such an unpleasant way, which can be the case when someone is very, very toxic, you may wish to slow down the process. DO NOT STOP!! Keep up the Hallelujah Diet but add a bit more cooked food and less raw. This cooked food will slow down the release of the toxins, but will not totally stop their release. The body will still detoxify, only at a more tolerable, slower pace over a longer period.
EXTRA HELP FOR THE JOURNEY
We all know that repetition is imperative. There have been studies from some of the leading minds of the world and they have all agreed that there are two very important concepts necessary to successfully complete a task desired: (1) KEEP IT SIMPLE and (2) REPEAT IT OFTEN!!
It is NOT sufficient to learn something for the first time and then think that just because we know a fact, that fact then becomes a part of our life and actions forever. This new way of eating must be reinforced over and over and over again, day after day, week after week, month after month until our mind has been saturated and reprogrammed and new habits are formed. And then sometimes, we need to almost start all over again and reprogram ourselves and get back on track or stay on track!!
Here are some ideas to help accomplish the above:
· Make sure you get and read the Weekly Health Tips – read them more than once. Cut out the sections that mean more and keep.
· Make sure you are getting and reading regularly the Hallelujah Acres Diet and Lifestyle magazine. We bring them in from the States and they are a good source of encouragement.
· Check out our website and see new products, ideas, etc. Also check out our “Mother ship” website, www.hacres.com - they have a section where you can go back for years and read old health tips – an excellent idea!!! You can see the titles and choose different topics, etc.
· Make sure you have a copy of God’s Way to Ultimate Health, or The Hallelujah Diet. Read them, mark them up and re-read them often.
· Buy the DVD, The Miraculous Self Healing Body and watch it every so often. I have watched it over 100 times and never tire of the encouragement it gives to stick with the stuff. There are other DVD’s and tapes that can be encouraging.
· Pray – remember James 5:16, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
· Read the book, “Lick the Sugar Habit” –it’s a great resource.
